Try Hockey for Free Day
by posted 11/07/2018

Our Try Hockey for Free event in conjunction with USA Hockey was a success! Girls new to the sport were laced up their skates and hit the ice with coaches and players from our U16 Black team. Smiles filled the rink, especially when we surprised the participants with pizza and cupcakes afterward! The next Try Hockey for Free Day is scheduled for February 23rd. Learn more.

by posted 04/09/2018

Our U16 Black won the USA Hockey Tier II National Championships by beating the Vermont Shamrocks 1-0 in a well-matched, tough game. As our second National Championship title in two years of joining the CHC and NEGHL leagues, we are proud to be known for our commitment to developing players at all levels AND for fielding top-tier competitive travel teams. Congratulations girls on this well-deserved feat!

WELCOME MESSAGE

Our goal is to be the best player development program in the region. As we’ve grown to be the largest girls-only youth hockey organization in Southern Connecticut with over 225 registered participants, adding more programming opportunities for new and existing players, regardless of experience or level of competitiveness.

With back-to-back USA Hockey National Championship titles the past two years, an expansive tiered travel team structure, and one of the most robust Learn to Play programs in the region, we think we have something for everyone.  We’re are proud of our 90% player retention rate and consistently positive feedback about our purpose, operational excellence, and impact on so many girls’ lives.

Our program highlights include:

  • Strong, positive organizational culture grounded in principle and shared values
  • Player development centric organization focused on helping each player reach their potential and next level of play
  • Absolute focus to growing the game through our Learn to Play Clinics, reaching girls of all ages (3 – 19)
  • Membership in multiple leagues (CGHL, CHC, and NEGHL) to achieve the ideal competitive balance for each team
  • Tiered travel team structure (White, Green, and Black) allows us to offer multiple teams (11 in total) at all age brackets (U08 - U19), optimizing growth and development at all level of play
  • Extensive development opportunities outside of team practice, including best-in-class goalie training program, in-season skill sessions, tournament opportunities, and pre-season camps
  • Top-tier coaching team using a consistent methodology that aligns with the USA Hockey American Development Model to optimize development
  • Champions of the girls’ hockey experience, giving access to female role-models through our expanding number of female Sharks coaches or our partnerships with like-minded organizations like Pro Crease Goaltending or the QU Women’s Hockey Team.

Heading into this season, we have a lot of momentum. Our President, Ed Rodham, outlines our accomplishments from last season, highlights our growth over the past five years, reviews the program enhancement for this season and reinforces what makes us different.
